NEW ROLE FOR EX-COSAFA BOSS

Cosafa honoured its former secretary-general Ashford Mamelodi by approving that he be the federation's honorary general secretary, during the yearly general meeting that was held in Kimberley on Friday.

Cosafa honoured its former secretary-general Ashford Mamelodi by approving that he be the federation's honorary general secretary, during the yearly general meeting that was held in Kimberley on Friday.

This came after Mamelodi resigned recently to concentrate on his career as the Fifa's development officer for east, central and southern Africa.

He served the organisation for more than 15 years, and during his tenure Cosafa went from being an organisation that ran an occasional Under-20 tournament to the biggest regional body of its kind worldwide.

"I have been forced to quit because the Fifa work has increased dramatically," said Mamelodi.

"We resolved that the secretariat of the organisation remain in Gaborone, with a satellite office in Johannesburg. We also adopted the restructuring of the executive committee from 14 to a five-member team," Suketu Patel, Cosafa's president said. - Matome Lebea
