Top volleyball administrator Nthebe Molope believes Volleyball South Africa (VSA) is as good as dead because the mother body lacks transformation and passion for development.
Speaking to Sowetan yesterday, Molope said the retention of some of the executive committee members at VSA's quadrennial elections last Saturday, will impact negatively on the development of the sport in the country. He has decided to quit.
Molope is also convinced that there is no growth in VSA in terms of leadership. He said he was disheartened by the fact that some of the officials have been in the executive committee since the inception of VSA 14 years ago.
"Tubby Reddy is the inaugural president and has been elected for another four years," said Molope, who challenged Reddy for the presidency.
"Vinesh Maharaj has been treasurer for 12 years, Donovan Nair (media), Kriba Reddy (general secretary) and Deva Moodlier (competitions) have also been there for many years.
"They will continue to lead us. How does one explain this situation? Does this mean that we don't have other capable people to lead us? But then they were elected democratically by the provinces, who have the right to choose their preferred leaders."
Teboho Mofokeng was elected new technical director, while Anthony Mokoena is the new vice president.
VSA's president Reddy yesterday laughed off Molope's claims: "I'm really not surprised about what Molope is saying. He has been playing the race card in the build-up to the elections, and he will continue to do so since he lost the elections.
"I have not voted myself in but the members did and therefore I should not be crucified for being re-elected," said Reddy.
Molope was supported by Kleinbooi Tlala, chairman of schools sport in Mpumalanga, and Thabo Maloisane, a former volleyball player in Bloemfontein.
While Molope refused to comment further about the situation at VSA, sources close to the mother body said they were equally unhappy with the composition of the executive committee and an alleged bias towards KwaZulu-Natal. But this was also dismissed by Reddy.
