The future of one of two suspended senior Tzaneen municipality senior officials will be decided at a disciplinary hearing in early January.

Community services manager Vincent Maake and communications and marketing head Solomon Mokhashoa appeared before the municipality's disciplinary committee yesterday.

The case was postponed to next year because their representative did not show up. The next hearing will take place on January 8 and 9.

The case will focus only on Mokhashoa. A statement by the municipality said it was in the process of finalising a settlement with Maake.

Municipal manager Mabakane Mangena said Mokhashoa and Maake were suspended after they allegedly encouraged community members not to pay for services and municipal employees not to support a cost saving plan.

It was also alleged that the two had mobilised councillors to support policies that were aimed at causing divisions in the ruling ANC within the municipality.

Mokhashoa was facing "charges of violation of the suspension rule".

Mokhashoa allegedly continued to speak to the media while he was on suspension.

Mangena said this was in contravention of rules. Mokhashoa is now the provincial convener of the new party Cope.
