Softball will take centre stage in Ekurhuleni next weekend when 19 clubs, including four from Botswana, exchange bats in the 10th Tshepo Ncholo Memorial Softball Games in Tsakane.

And the organisers of this yearly event have promised the sport's devotees a spellbinding three-day softball feast.

The tournament takes place at the Faranani softball diamonds near Tsakane mall from December 13 to 15 and the matches will pitch off at 9am each day.

It is staged in memory of Tshepo Ncholo who was killed in a car hijacking in Boksburg, Ekurhuleni on November 30 2003.

The tournament has attracted three more clubs this year and the newcomers are Cardinals of KwaZulu-Natal and Pretoria sides Tribe Hawks and Tribe Hornets.

Vikings of Botswana are also bringing their men's side this time round after they were only represented in the women's section last year.

Botswana giants Paper Club have also confirmed their participation and will be going all out to defend their titles in both categories.

But they should find it tough against the likes of Limpopo multiple champions Mahwelereng Spikes and Seleteng Giant Killers.

Tsakane's Marauders should also able to compete at home, and Normans of Eastern Gauteng and GaRankuwa's Generals are equally competitive.

"This is our 10th anniversary and we want to make the tournament a memorable one," Machouka Sijadu, one of the event coordinators, said yesterday.

The teams have been divided into two groups in both categories, and the winners of the groups will be determined in a round robin format.
