Yet another life has been lost as a result of the cholera epidemic that continues to ravage Musina and surrounding areas, including Zimbabwe.

The Zimbabwean woman, whose identity and age are not known, died shortly after being admitted to a rehydration centre at Messina Hospital on Tuesday.

Her death brings to eight the number of people who have died from the disease since its outbreak on November 15.

Phuti Seloba, the spokesman for the Limpopo department of health and social development, said the latest victim was dehydrated when she arrived at the hospital.

"I saw her when she arrived. She was in serious danger," said Seloba.

Asked about claims that some Zimbabweans were dying in the bushes en route to South Africa, Seloba said the department was concentrating only on those who had reached the institutions and needed treatment .

By late yesterday, the department had dealt with 455 cases since the outbreak of the disease. Seventy-one of these were admitted to various hospitals in the province. Of the 71, 17 were new cases, said Seloba.
