The ANC in KwaZulu-Natal yesterday vowed to take serious action against members who impose candidate lists on the people as it gears up for the coming general elections.

ANC provincial secretary Senzo Mchunu said the ANC had many members who could serve in various spheres of government.

Mchunu said they had started preparations countrywide for a comprehensive list process that seeks to identify people "fit for deployment".

"The ANC will from time to time deploy and redeploy," he said

"We expect our members to exercise the maximum discipline, which has guided the movement over its 96-year history."

He said the party wanted to prevent the kind of situation that occurred in 2006 when community members complained that certain people were "imposed on them".

"The ANC will deploy members who are considered fit to do the job," he said. "There is no member of the party who is entitled to a position."
