WC business gaps discussed

Business opportunities around the 2010 World Cup will be on the menu at a gala dinner at Gariep Dam in Free State on Friday night.

Business opportunities around the 2010 World Cup will be on the menu at a gala dinner at Gariep Dam in Free State on Friday night.

Chief organiser Mzwandile Maforvane said the three regions that will be beneficiaries of the gala are Pixley ka Seme, Ukhahlamba and Xhariep.

Maforvane said Danny Jordaan, the Local Organising Committee (LOC) chief executive, will be the main speaker.

Jordaan will be accompanied by Mandla "Shoes" Mazibuko, who is the venue manager for Ellis Park Stadium for the 2009 Confederations Cup and World Cup.

"Besides our community members, we have also invited representatives of the three municipalities to attend," said Maforvane.

"People want to know how they will benefit from the World Cup.

"Some have already resigned their jobs and used their severance packages to start businesses aimed at taking advantage of the World Cup, like turning their homes into guest houses.

"Friday is a perfect opportunity for all the people with brilliant business ideas for the World Cup to attend and also ask the top brass from the LOC all questions they would like to."
