Japan Karate Association South African president Johan Roets has applauded Royal Bafokeng for their unselfish initiative in developing martial arts in North West.

Roets said they appreciated the support from Royal Bafokeng Sports, who have employed karate experts to develop the sport.

The experts, who include Shihan Chris Seabelo and Sensei Mantshele Tau, train over 1400 young boys and girls in Phokeng and surrounding areas.

Roets said the karate development programme started by Bafokeng will help to keep the children off the streets also help them to defend themselves.

Seabelo said: "We have designed a great development programme that we are convinced will help produce some of the best karateka in North West."

JKA recently honoured Bafokeng King Leruo Molotlegi with a sixth dan black belt (shihan) in recognition of the support his nation was providing.

Shihan Molotlegi said: "I am honoured to have been recognised, but this is really an award to the heroes and heroines in the community."
