I am black and a proud member of DA

I am a black South African who is also a proud member of the DA. I subscribe to its principles, policies and vision of an open opportunity society.

I am a black South African who is also a proud member of the DA. I subscribe to its principles, policies and vision of an open opportunity society.

I will do everything in my power to mobilise black people to understand, support the party and mobilise in its favour, so it can win the 2009 elections and become the next government.

Only people such as your reader Mohammed S from Cape Town can misunderstand and misinterpret the DA and its re-branding.

We have often acknowledged the disparities, inequalities and sufferings that apartheid policies caused and we have openly condemned it. But that does not mean we should dwell on the past. We need to move on.

The DA is now focusing on the possibility of a true nonracial, progressive rainbow nation. A society that does not depend on grants but uses them as a safety net.

We want to build a nation that is self-reliant, with the government being there to assist and create opportunities for all. This vision will never be realised under the arrogant, populist ANC.

Our leader, Helen Zille, won the 2008 World's Mayor Award, beating the likes of Amos Masondo and other ANC mayors. What does that tell you?

The answer is simple: DA led municipalities are the best run compared with ANC-led municipalities.
