One lucky and talented South African stands a chance to work with Wyclef Jean and The Black Eyed Peas' Fergie as part of the Motorokr Star competition.
The winner will fly to New York to compete in the ultimate finals against world qualifiers. The lucky one gets a major recording contract.
The ultimate winner gets an opportunity to record a song written by Wyclef Jean and vocal coaching by Fergie.
Wyclef will be in South Africa to promote the competition and perform at a private function.
Speaking in a recorded message the former Fugees star, who was at the London launch of the initiative, said he was looking forward to meeting South African talent in New York.
He also said that he sees this as a new way to unearth new talent. Now that is serious stuff coming from a man who has worked with Whitney Houston, Mary J Blige, Akon, Lil Wayne, TI, Shakira, Carlos Santana...
Hopefuls need to sing-along to nine preselected songs. These are Wyclef's Gone Til November and You Really Got Me, Fergie's Big Girls Don't Cry, Celine Dion's Alone, Ben E. King's Stand By Me, Cyndi Lauper's True Colours, Elvis Presley's Heartbreak Hotel, Pat Benatar's Hit Me With Your Best and Whitney Houston's So Emotional.
To be eligible you must have bought, from any authorised MTN dealer, retail channel or approved distribution partner, one of the following handsets between November 1 2008 and January 12, 2009: Motorokr E8; Moto EM325*; Moto EM30*; Motorazr2 V9; Motorazr V8; Moto U9; Moto W230; and Moto W.
The contest is open to any non-professional South African older than 16. You can enter through the Motorokr star audition booth by visiting major shopping centres and recording and up-loading entries in a booth.
You can also submit an audition video to www.motorokrstar.com or go to www.motorokrstar.mobi on a cellphone.
The public will choose the 100 most popular tracks. These will then be judged by a panel who will cut the list down to 10. The winner will be selected by Wyclef and Sony Music and the ultimate winner by Wyclef and Fergie.
Nine runners-up will get MTN exploded management programmes.
