I'm sure that more than a few people have aired their views on Winnie Madikizela-Mandela speaking on behalf of Nelson Mandela. I'd like to air my views on her speaking on my behalf.
She claimed that all South Africans are upset with the split in the ANC. I am not upset. As a freedom-loving person living in an open opportunity society, I welcome any party that widens the democratic process. What upsets me is the violence the ANC is using to prevent people from speaking out, which is their constitutional right.
While Madiba might decry the events that led to the split, the ANC should never forget that it brought this upon itself. The ANC, and not ordinary voters or the other parties, is to blame.
Instead of expending all that energy trying to eliminate Cope, it should rally its supporters and double its efforts. We in the DA will be doing just that.
