The Johannesburg region of the South African Football Association (Safa) is to honour Irvin Khoza for his contribution to the development of the game.

He will be bestowed with the life presidency of Safa Johannesburg, which includes Soweto, Alexandra, Sandton, Randburg, Midrand, Eldorado Park and Orange Farm.

Khoza, who is also chariman of the Local Organising Committee, will be presented with a plaque by Safa Johannesburg president Tony Reeves.

"Our regional executive agreed to honour Khoza with a life presidency," said regional deputy president Phil "Chippa" Mogodi.

"Besides playing a significant role in helping to bring the 2010 World Cup to South Africa, Khoza is also involved in developing the game.

"The PSL is one of the top 10 premier leagues in the world and is now attracting some of the best players and coaches because of his and his executives' efforts.

"We thank God for giving us a visionary and strategist like him. The man is down to earth and always willing to assist other people where possible.

"We are having an executive meeting tomorrow (Tuesday) to discuss the date on which he will be presented with the plaque.

"At Safa Soweto, Khoza is also a patron of one of our yearly development tournaments (the SuperSport Under-19 International Cup."

Khoza could not be reached for comment at the time of going to press.
