Sibeko, 49, of Lenasia South, bought his Sowetan at a garage in the early hours of the morning.
"I had missed the Tuesday competition but when I read what the previous winner was planning to do with his money, I remembered my lovely wife Mapule," Sibeko said.
He said he had been worried that he had no money to buy Christmas gifts for her his two children.
