A leading member of the Congress of the People, Phillip Dexter, has been suspended with immediate effect as chairman of the board of the Mpumalanga Economic Growth Agency for alleged irregularities.
Provincial department of economic development and planning MEC Craig Padayachee took the decision to give Dexter leave of absence in order to allow for an enquiry into allegations of impropriety against him.
The department's Thomas Msiza refused to divulge the allegations against Dexter.
But, Sowetan has it on good authority that he is accused of, among other things, illegally selling properties belonging to the then Mpumalanga Economic Empowerment Corporation.
