The people of Ekurhuleni have been robbed of one of the finest medical brains in Dr Jacqueline Thembeka Makhanya.

She was found dead in her flat in Krugersdorp, West Rand, at the weekend. Police are investigating the cause of her death. Makhanya was born in Manzini, Swaziland, but went to school in Lesotho.

She graduated cum laude for her Bachelor of Science degree from the National University of Lesotho in 1992.

She then enrolled at the University of Cape Town, where she obtained her medical degree in 1999 and went for an internship at the Kalafong Hospital in Atteridgeville, Pretoria.

Her first job as a doctor was at Odi Hospital in Mabopane. She also worked at the Pelonomi Hospital in Bloemfontein and served as locums in Tsakane, Daveyton, and Pretoria.

At the time of her death she was working for the Zuzimpilo Private Clinic in Braamfontein.

A staunch member of the Methodist Church, Makhanya is survived by her parents, two sisters and a brother.

She will be buried at Brakpan Cemetery tomorrow. The service will be held at the Methodist Church in Gubhela Street from 9am.
