Kaizer Chiefs made South Africa proud by scooping the award for the best stand at the 2008 Soccerex. The award was presented at the gala dinner at Sandton Convention Centre on Tuesday night.

Amakhosi, the only South African club that has been exhibiting at this yearly event for the past eight years, took the local and international companies to the cleaners.

Two days earlier Irvin Khoza Local Organising Committee chairman had commended Chiefs for advertising SA soccer globally.

Chiefs, Mamelodi Sundowns, Ajax Cape Town, Lamontville Golden Arrows and Platinum Stars were the only five Premiership clubs that exhibited.

Dignitaries at the dinner included Khoza, Mpumalanga Premier Thabang Makwetla, Gauteng Premier Paul Mashatile and Barbara Creecy, Gauteng MEC for sports, arts, culture and recreation.

Khoza, who is also the Premier Soccer League chairman, was also honoured for his role in the development of the beautiful game in South Africa.

He was presented with the Platinum Trophy by Prince Mothata Molotlegi of the Bafokeng in North West.

Other soccer personalities honoured were Argentina and Liverpool legend Ossie Ardiles, and Brazilians Marta Viera and Carlos Alberto.

Soccerex, which started on Monday and ended yesterday, will inject over R70 million into the Gauteng economy.

The Gauteng government, who are hosting the event used Soccerex to showcase South Africa's readiness for the 2009 Confederations Cup and 2010 World Cup.

Avusa Media, Sowetan newspaper owners, were among the partners of this event that attracted the who's who of business and soccer.
