Slap in the face

The renewal of sex pest Sam Rampedi's employment contract by Limpopo Premier Sello Moloto should be seen as a slap in the face for the victim.

The renewal of sex pest Sam Rampedi's employment contract by Limpopo Premier Sello Moloto should be seen as a slap in the face for the victim.

Rampedi was found guilty in the Pretoria high court of having sexually harassed a former colleague, Thato Mocumie, during his tenure as Polokwane's municipal manager. The court ordered him to pay R90000 in damages.

The renewal of the contract raises questions because it was done a few days before his conviction.

What prompted the hurry? Sexual harassment is viewed in a serious light worldwide, with activists calling for harsher punishment for the perpetrators.
