A total of 102 people were arrested over the weekend in Hillbrow and surrounding areas, Gauteng police said yesterday.
Captain Bhekizizwe Mavundla said people were arrested for crimes such as car hijacking, murder, attempted murder and theft.
He said those arrested were due to appear yesterday in the Hillbrow or the Johannesburg magistrate's courts depending on the category of each crime committed.
Mavundla said the weekend operations in Hillbrow, Braamfontein, Parktown, Joubert Park and Berea were supported by community-based patrol groups.
He said police reservists, the crime prevention unit and the detective services had also monitored the safety of businesses over the weekend.
"The fight against crime is not only for the police but it is for everyone," said Mavundla. - Sapa
