A Vereeniging circuit court judge yesterday sentenced a 24-year-old man to life imprisonment and ordered the prosecution of two state witnesses in a dramatic end to a murder trial involving a young man killed over a pair of designer jeans and takkies.

Judge Kathy Satchwell instructed the state to facilitate the prosecution of Thabiso Mahlabe and Paul Saohatse, saying they took part in Thabang Mafa's brutal murder in August last year.

Yesterday she sentenced Thabang Raditsela, to life imprisonment and Aaron Molamo to 21 years in jail.

Mahlabe and Saohatse earlier testified against their two friends Raditsela, 24 and Molamo, 20. They said on August 12 last year they were present when Raditsela and Molamo killed Mafa.

The two robbed Mafa of a pair of jeans, takkies, a watch and gold ring. Mahlabe and Saohatse said after Mafa was shot dead they then drove past his naked body and went on a drinking spree with Raditsela and Molamo but did not inform the police.

Mahlabe and Saohatse were initially arrested with Raditsela and Molamo on August 29 before turning into state witnesses.

Satchwell urged that Mahlabe and Saohatse be charged with possessing stolen property and defeating the ends of justice.
