Her album, Fade to Black, gave her two 2008 Sama nominations for the Best Female and Best Newcomer awards.
Baxter has, on occasion when vocalising with The Collective, been referred to as South Africa's own Moloko, a compliment to the trip-hopping, funkadelic, smooth sounds that emanate from this vivacious vixen.
A little known fact about Baxter is that she is also a full-time mom of two, so we invited her and her son and daughter to preview a range of Christmas crackers.
Woolworths sells various boxes of Christmas crackers at different prices. Their mid-range set includes six fun crackers with plastic presents and paper crowns.
Tasha and her kids liked the way they pulled and they made a loud, satisfying Christmas bang.
"These are pretty good quality," she said. "The jokes, much like the prezzies they contain, were a bit silly but decent."
Between the three of them Tash and her kids managed to collect a plastic kaleidoscope, mini notebook, pencil sharpener and a party clicker.
The Christmas crackers from Clicks come in a pack of 10 and are brightly decorated in shiny green and red to add to the festive spirit.
"The quality is not quite as good as the ones from Woolworths," was the Baxters' opinion. "They also don't give a nice loud crack and the toys are lame."
The Baxter kids collected some key rings, charms for a necklace, a small plastic plane and foil hats in electric colours.
"Not all of them actually cracked," Baxter noted.
Pick 'n Pay stocks crackers that are affordable but the cheaper price tags affect the quality.
"The box comes in a festive Christmas green and gold but the crackers are pretty flimsy," Baxter said.
"The kids were disappointed by the mostly pathetic presents ."
When the Pick 'n Pay crackers did crack there was a loud bang and a lot of smoke but most of the time the paper ripped.
All the crackers had shiny foil crowns and lame jokes. How did the guy that gets shot out of a cannon lose his job? He got fired.
The CNA sells crackers in boxes of 12.
"There didn't seem to be any prezzies in these," said two unhappy children.
But they crack nicely, with lots of smoke and the smell of gunpowder .
The Mr Price crackers look the best, are packaged really well and have the most original design.
"The gifts were also definitely the best," Baxter said - and the kids asked for some of these crackers to take home for later.
