Rapper TI was reportedly due to take to the stand at a Cincinnati, Ohio, court yesterday to testify against one of the men charged with the murder of his best friend Philant Johnson .

The star, real name Clifford Harris Jnr, will tell the jurors his side of the events that led to the killing of Johnson and injuring of three other members of the hip-hop heavyweight's entourage in May 2006, according to SOHH.com.

The trial is against Hosea Thomas, who was arrested with brother Pardon Thomas in June this year in connection with the killing. Both men were indicted on several charges relating to the incident.

The brothers allegedly took offence to the rapper and his entourage after they were rejected from the VIP area of an afterparty the star was attending following a performance at Bogart's nightclub in Cincinnati, Ohio, said the Cincinnati Enquirer.

A police representative for the city said: "TI and his group were in the VIP area. The suspects wanted to get in the VIP area and weren't allowed to."

Jurors in the case were chosen on Monday and were reportedly shown the crime scene on Tuesday.

Johnson, who was 26, went to school with TI and was an integral part of his recording career, according to Allhiphop.com.

TI defended his decision to carry illegal weapons after last year's arrest on multiple weapon possession charges, claiming he feared assassination since Johnson was shot dead. - Wenn
