The government must be transparent when dealing with issues of public interest.

A year after NPA boss Vusi Pikoli was suspended over allegations that he was not fit to hold office, the report into his conduct has still not been made public.

Instead it has been sent to his lawyer, Aslam Moosajee, under a confidentiality clause.

Pikoli's suspension by former president Thabo Mbeki and the subsequent inquiry made media headlines.

His suspension was announced in public, so the public now have the right to know the findings.

President Kgalema Motlanthe must waste no time in releasing the report.

The nation, including Pikoli, is anxiously awaiting his decision on the matter.
