Now that murder accused Johan Nel has pleaded guilty in the Mmabatho high court, Skierlik residents say it is time for him to face the music.

Residents of this North West informal settlement, where alleged teen killer Nel went on a shooting rampage, say they were relieved when he pleaded guilty on Monday.

Nel, 18, is facing charges of multiple murder and attempted murder after he allegedly shot and killed four people.

The four people who died included a three-month-old baby and a 10-year-old boy. Ten other people were injured.

Nel also faces a count of illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.

Esther Moiphitlhi, 26, whose sister Anna Moiphitlhi was shot and killed together with her three-month-old baby on her back, said yesterday that Nel belonged in jail.

"It is interesting that he said he was not guilty.

"Now he has changed his tune. I hope that the judge sees through him and sends him to jail for a long time," said the mother of two.

Paulos Sekgwane said all the community needed was closure.

"My wish is that the case be wrapped up so that people can go on with their lives.

"The judge must deliver a satisfactory sentence - the boy is an adult and should be treated as such," said Sekgwane.

Most of the relatives of the dead and surviving victims had gone to Mmabatho to attend the court case.

Moiphitlhi said her mother Emily and uncle Abraham left at 5am every day to catch a lift with police travelling to Mmabatho.
