BERLIN - Should Germany qualify for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, each player selected in the successful squad stands to make a maximum of ß200000 (about R2,5million), it was announced yesterday.
The German Football Federation (DFB) president Theo Zwanziger met with the Germany squad in Berlin on Monday night to reveal their performance-based win bonus scheme.
The deal was decided by Zwanziger and a senior group of players. If Germany finish top of Group Four, each player chosen for each of the 10 qualification games will get ß20000 a match.
Die Mannschaft are unbeaten at the top of their group after last month's wins over Russia and Wales. Germany play England in a friendly at Berlin's Olympic Stadium tonight. - Sapa-AFP
