Building a Future is a particularly apt name for an ambitious youth development programme.
It is run by an energetic community worker at De Beers Heights in Barkley West, Northern Cape.
She is Irene Fitzi, one of the top three finalists in the adult category of the 2008 Old Mutual, SABC and Sowetan Community Builder of the Year Award.
Building a Future caters for children from six to 12, known as the Action Team, and youth between 12 and 35, known as Rising Stars.
It gives poor and vulnerable charges the will to succeed against all odds.
Interestingly the action in Action Team is an acronym for All Children are Treasures In Our Nation.
Fitzi, a former police officer, says the centre at an Assemblies of God church built and headed by her father, Reverend Frank George, is a beacon of hope
It encourages older youth's interest in education and health with the accent on HIV-Aids awareness, skills development and the dynamics of personal goal setting.
Plans are afoot to build a special centre, the Mzansi Youth Centre. Land has already been set aside for the purpose.
Building a Future's most commendable campaign is raising funds to pay for the education of its top achievers Frans Chobeng, Ricardo Kale, Marlin Solomon and Danny Bloem, who are studying at tertiary level.
