A Bloemfontein teacher has come second in a global competition for teachers who find innovative ways of using technology in the classroom to improve teaching.

Sarietjie Musgrave, of Eunice High School in Bloemfontein, received the accolade at Microsoft's Worldwide Innovative Teachers Forum (ITF) in Hong Kong last week.

She won second prize in the Innovation in Community category for her "Spread the Sunshine" project, which saw Grade 10 pupils creating technology-based solutions that would make the lives of disabled people easier.

Now in its fourth year, the Worldwide ITF rewards outstanding teachers who incorporate the creative use of technology in their classrooms to transform education, and use innovative learning methods to empower their students and prepare them for the 21st century.

More than 250 teachers who won ITF in 64 countries attended this year's finals.
