The body of a 10-year-old boy who had been missing for six days after he fell into a river has been found.
The body of Tebogo Sejaphala was found floating in the river by a passerby on Wednesday at about 11am, a few kilometres from where he had apparently tripped and fallen in.
Police in Mankweng near Polokwane have opened an inquest docket. Police spokesman Inspector Malan Nchabeleng said the boy was reported to have fallen and been washed away by a swollen river while he was trying to cross it.
Sejaphala, from Laaste Hoop village in GaMolepo, east of Polokwane, was a Grade 3 pupil at a local school.
The incident happened when he was returning home from school last Friday afternoon.
Nchabeleng said it was still difficult to tell what the cause of the boy's death was, but they believed he drowned because his body had no injuries. However, the possibility that he might have been killed and thrown into the river could not be ruled out.
Nchabeleng appealed to parents in the area to ensure that their children did not play next to swollen rivers during the rainy season. He also warned communities in the area against pointing fingers at anyone because of the latest incident.
