Ayo Kunle to dazzle

Patience Bambalele

Guitar genius Kunle Ayo, pictured, will enthrall music lovers when he takes to the stage at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Rosebank tomorrow.

With his innate skills and deep love of jazz, Ayo is one of the hippest jazz musicians at the moment.

He has been compared with contemporary guitar giants such as George Benson, Earl Klugh and Jimmy Dludlu. He is expected to dazzle jazz lovers with his singing and guitar sounds.

Born of Yoruba parents in Lagos, Nigeria, Ayo started playing the guitar in his youth.

Having released his first album, Ayo, in 2002 Kunle's status as a jazz and soul singer and guitarist has grown rapidly. He released another album in 2005, titled Sincerely Yours.

Since his trek to the south in 2002 Ayo has performed and recorded with some of the country's best musicians, notably Marcus Wyatt, Buddy Wells, Moses Khumalo, Musa Manzini, Nombulelo Maqetuka, Judith Sephuma and Jonathan Butler.

Ayo captures the old school, high-life music of Nigeria in memorable remakes. He also incorporates the choral singing style of South African music to create innovative sounds.

Tickets for his show cost R700 a person, including a three-course meal. Bookings can be made by contacting Titi on 083-300-7105.

The show starts at 7pm.
