Correctional Services Minister Ngconde Balfour has allegedly told his new director-general, Xoliswa Sibeko, to "squash the investigation" into allegations of tender fraud related to the R200 million prisons catering contract with Bosasa.
This claim was made yesterday by Sid Luckett, director for public works and transport in Western Cape.
Sibeko took over from Vernie Petersen last week.
Petersen had been investigating the contract in defiance of Balfour's instruction to extend it for a year.
Balfour himself is being probed for a discounted 4x4 vehicle financed by Kgwerano Asset Finance, which allegedly has links with Bosasa.
His spokesman, Manelisi Wolela, did not answer calls.
