Akhomi Baloyi, a music producer and a South African Music Awards judge, is suffering from a broken eardrum and his face is bruised after he was allegedly assaulted by police last weekend.

"I was assaulted in the early hours of Sunday at Ivory Park police station by the police,Baloyi says. "I was then locked up with foreigners until the next day.

"They said I knew too much of my rights.

"Our driver was locked up for alleged drunken driving. I told them the rest of us should be released, and that's when all hell broke loose."

The police confirm that a case of assault has been opened.
