That is the figure these "honourable" members stand to lose should they have the courage of their convictions and follow their hearts to join Mosiuoa Lekota and Mbhazima Shilowa's new party.
Some could argue that this being the festive season, and thus the most expensive time of the year, perhaps these MPs should be cut some slack. We would argue differently.
Those willing to argue that they are leaving one party to join another because their present employers are an unscrupulous lot should lead by example and not feed off the carcass they themselves say stinks. It smacks of double standards for them to stick with the ANC, pass laws such as the controversial killing off of the Scorpions or the bill that allows them to change the Finance Minister's budgetary allocations, if they know they will not be around to defend those positions when the time comes.
The new era of politics requires a new morality. Not the same old self-serving mentality.
