Matric candidates who sat for the accounting exam yesterday were cautiously optimistic about how they fared.

Theo Mongoenyane of Meadowlands Senior Secondary School in Soweto said: "The paper was a bit hectic but some of the sections were easy.

"The paper was made up of eight questions and 40 minutes was allocated to each section.

"What made the exam hard was that we had not finished the syllabus on time. I think I will pass, though," Mongoenyane said.

Another pupil from the same school, Masingita Mavasa, said: "I think I will pass though there were some sections that I did not understand.

"We had had enough preparation before the exams and that makes me confident."

Pupils at the Letsibogo Girls School were also optimistic.

Shaun Koloi said: "The exam was long but reasonable. We prepared hard and I am confident I have done well."

Her classmate, Zodwa Msimango, said the exam was easy.

"Compared with the preliminary exam it was actually easy," she said.

"The preliminary was based more on theory, while this one was based more on practical things."
