Dealerships in festive mood

This week the automotive industry is in hyper mode. The Johannesburg International Motor Show is under way and car enthusiasts are queuing at entry points at the Nasrec showgrounds south of Joburg to get a glimpse of new hardware.

As mentioned last week, there's plenty of activity for the public at the bi-annual showpiece. Be aware that although it's an exhibition, car sales are targeted - and word is that some manufacturers are taking potential clients on test drives in the area to give punters bum-in-the-seat marketing. So head there if you want to squeeze in a test drive while peeking through new cars and exotics.

Last week Road Rave had the opportunity to drive Renault's new Logan car, punted as the cheapest sedan in the land. For R99950 - with aircon, MP3 player, electric windows and a 1600cc engine - you bet it's a bargain. If you think you want the car, then hurry up as according to Renault's marketing department, that price will not remain for long. You have until the end of the year.

If you reside in the Durban area and are about to hit dealerships in search of a new set of wheels, I'd suggest you hold off the search until Friday. Burchmore's "sale of sales" is coming to Durban and will be held at the ICC, where a great number of cars will be sold off at wholesale prices.

I see that Chrysler Jeep Dodge Centurion is in a festive mood since we highlighted the bargain price on its range of Dodge Calibres. More specials have been availed this week and are applicable to its extended brand names that include Jeep and Chrysler.

Also, I see Constantia VW Roodepoort have stock going as cheap as R60000. So check on them.
