An unemployed Mpumalanga man allegedly used a dog to intimidate a 28-year-old woman before raping her at his place.
The 28-year-old man from Extension 8 in Mhluzi, Middelburg, was arrested for the rape at the weekend.
It all started on Friday morning while the victim was on her way to work. She came across a man she knows. According to the police the man had a dog with him.
They walked together for a distance before the man allegedly asked her to accompany him to his place so that they could talk about a possible relationship.
But the woman is said to have refused.
Superintendent Abie Khoabane said the man allegedly threatened to set the dog on the woman if she refused to accompany him.
Khoabane said the woman insisted that she wanted to go to work but the man allegedly again threatened to embarrass her by setting the dog on her.
On arrival at his place the man allegedly raped her.
Khoabane said the woman reported the matter to the police and the suspect was later arrested. He was due to appear in court yesterday on a charge of rape.
