A 16-year-old girl from the crime-ridden KaNyamazane township, near Nelspruit, is among four females arrested for allegedly stabbing a 23-year-old woman with broken bottles at the weekend.

The other three are aged 20, 22 and 25.

They are facing charges of attempted murder after they allegedly used broken bottles to stab the victim in the head on Saturday.

Police spokesman Superintendent Abie Khoabane yesterday confirmed the incident and the arrests.

Khoabane said he did not know why the four attacked the woman, but Sowetan has been reliably informed that the victim had been accused of stealing the boyfriend of one of the suspects.

Sources said one of the suspects warned the victim a few weeks ago to stay away from her boyfriend but she would not listen and instead became aggressive.

She allegedly told the woman to tie up "her dog" because it kept on following her.

"I think those ladies taught the woman a lesson she will never forget," said a source who was too afraid to be identified.

Members of the community tried to save the bleeding woman by threatening to shoot the attackers if they did not leave her.

It was only then that they left her and ran away.

The severely wounded woman was taken to the local clinic from where she was transferred to KaBokweni Hospital.

"We are investigating a case of attempted murder and the suspects are expected to appear in the KaBokweni magistrate's court soon," Khoabane said.
