Kaizer Chiefs' sublime form against AmaZulu at Loftus on Saturday left many people believing that Amakhosi will wear the crown this season.

They thumped the hapless pre-season relegation candidates Usuthu 3-0 in this lopsided Absa Premiership match as they claimed their back-to-back victory following the slender 1-0 success over basement club Bloemfontein Celtic on Wednesday.

Chiefs were on top of their game and credit should also go to midfielder David Mathebula who contributed to their first-half goals, scored by Gert Schalkwyk and Reneilwe Letsholonyane.

Jose Torrealba put the match beyond Usuthu when he converted a penalty in the 68th minute.

Usuthu goalie Kalililo Kakonje blocked Torrealba's first attempt but the Venezuelan forward reacted quickly to finish off the rebound.

Coach Muhsin Ertugral applied a 3-5-2 system and this made Chiefs persuasive on the wings.

While their loyalists are convinced Chiefs can win the title, Mathebula and Ertugral remained cagey about their chances.

"There is still a long way to go and we can't talk about about it [the league title] now," said Mathebula, who was rightfully voted man of the match.

"But we are encouraged by the fact that we are now winning, and scoring three goals today [Saturday] will go a long way in inspiring us. I'm happy with my performance today considering that I was not playing well at the start of the season."

Added Ertugral: "It is encouraging to win back-to-back matches and we just want to continue working hard and we will see where we will finish on the log at the end of the season."

He admitted that he was still looking for a reinforcement up front.

Clive Barker, AmaZulu coach, conceded that they lost to a capable team on the day, but remained adamant "we will regroup".

However it is said that Barker's future at Usuthu's kraal is hanging by the thinnest thread.
