I learnt with sadness of the passing of literary giant Ezekiel Es'kia Mphahlele.
He was an extraordinary literary genius who used his pen and African indigenous knowledge to fight the white regime's oppression of blacks.
Proof of that was the banning of his works by the racist regime.
His death has left a void that will take years to fill. Thanks to his literary works many generations will learn a lot from his work.
Like Barney Mthombothi said: "His was an extraordinary life, a journey that took him around the world. To call him an African literally giant, while a compliment, is perhaps to limit his influence to a place.
"If Nelson Mandela is our political star, Mphahlele was his literary equivalent".
Mphahlele used his pen to fight the racist regime and awaken the poor black soul that had been ravaged by the destructive racist and exclusive regime.
His words were so powerful they brought home the expression of inner self and to cry injustice towards the poor black soul.
He upped the stakes in the literary world. He will be missed but his work will console those who found solace in his writing. There are not enough words to describe this literary hero. May his soul rest in peace.
