A Johannesburg man accused of fatally shooting a four-year-old boy at a creche in Westdene is out on bail.
Griel Abrahamse, 46, of Westdene, was charged with murder in the Newlands regional court yesterday after the accidental shooting of Gwadico Balang junior on Tuesday. He is out on R4000 bail.
The fatal shooting happened when Abrahamse allegedly opened fire on a man who had stolen a cellphone from his son. Abrahamse apparently fired a warning shot at the fleeing robber but the bullet ricocheted off a palisade and killed the boy who was playing with other children outside the creche.
Abrahamse, a father of two, appeared before Magistrate Koos Pretorius.
In the affidavit supporting his bail application, Abrahamse said he worked at ANC head office, Luthuli House.
The case was postponed to November 28 for further investigations.
