More than 152000 matriculants start sitting today for their National Senior Certificate exams in KwaZuluNatal.

The province has the greatest number of registered students for the exams that end on December 3.

The group is seen as pioneers of the new Outcomes Based Education (OBE) curriculum.

MEC for education Ina Cronje yesterday conveyed her best wishes to all the pupils.

"Over and above the two sets of exemplar papers, learners must make sure that they use the following support material: two sets of exemplars with memoranda, two sets of Study Mate and KZN 12. The only secret for success is hard work," the MEC said.

She called on parents to give all the support they can to their children.

The department has a water-tight contingency plan in case of security breaches and possible leaks, 30 marking centres and more than 10000 markers.
