Nkuna praises referee Damon

Retired professional referee Herman Nkuna believes Jerome Damon will be one of the best match officials during the Fifa 2010 World Cup.

Retired professional referee Herman Nkuna believes Jerome Damon will be one of the best match officials during the Fifa 2010 World Cup.

This was after Damon was included in the list of prospective referees for the quadrennial global soccer spectacle. The no-nonsense schoolteacher is one of the five African referees on the panel announced by Fifa last week.

Others are Mohamed Benouza (Algeria), Coffi Dodjia (Benin), Coulibaly Koman (Mali) and Eddy Maillet (Seychelles).

"I was not surprised that Jerome has made it, he is one of best referees on the continent," said Herman, the only referee to win the man of the match award in 1997.

"The same applies to Enock Molefe. He will also be included in the list of prospective referees after their workshop in Singapore next month," added Nkuna, who is is now a Fifa and CAF match inspector.

Damon is expected to leave for Egypt today to handle the MTN African Champions League final between Al-Ahly and Coton Sport on Sunday.
