With the economy pinching us harder it makes sense to buy a vehicle that ensures good fuel economy, a good purchase price and low life-cycle costs.

The Hyundai Getz has established itself as one of the best buys in its segment and it's the most popular Hyundai ever built.

Apart from being reliable, the Getz's looks do not lag behind. It is also functional and practical.

Our pick of the week Getz still looked good and drove well.

From the interior through to the paintwork the car was immaculate, showing that it came from good hands.

The second generation Getz is even more popular than the previous model.

Though this is a small hatchback there is more than enough space for four adults to sit comfortably. The interior of the car is modern, and this is also the case with the controls.

Everything is within easy reach of the driver as well as easy to operate.

The contemporary design of the Getz, combined with its practicality, makes it suitable for the needs of a very diverse market.

The Getz is also a reliable little vehicle.

Our used car had done 41000km.

Driving the Getz is easy and the small turning circle makes driving in the city easy.

Fuel economy is one of the best attributes of the Getz. One can, without trying very hard, get 13km to 14km on a litre.

The four-cylinder, 1,4-litre power plant uses a five-speed manual gearbox to deliver power to the front wheels.

Power figures stand at 70kW and 125Nm. This might not sound like much, but is more than enough to travel at 120kmh.

It comes with aircon, front-loading CD-player, power steering and electric windows.
