The beleaguered north London club kick off the opening batch of group fixtures with a tough away assignment at Serie A second-placed side Udinese.
New recruit Luka Modric believes the change of scenery from the pounding they're receiving in the Premier League could be just the antidote to the club's current plight.
The Croatia international told Spur's official website: "The Uefa Cup is also an important competition for us and Udinese are a good team, so it will be a difficult game.
"European games are different to league games because we may get more time on the ball and that could give us an opportunity to express ourselves."
Udinese defender Daniele Ferronetti believes the Italians are in for a tough night.
"The fact that they're (Tottenham) in a really difficult period makes them even more dangerous because they'll be trying their hardest and won't give an inch.
Spurs' Premier League rivals Portsmouth are in northern Portugal to take on Braga while former European champions Aston Villa host Dutch giants Ajax.
Ramos' old side Sevilla start their group campaign with a home date against Vfb Stuttgart while the man the Spaniard replaced at White Hart Lane, Martin Jol, takes his new club SV Hamburg to Slovakia for a date with MSK Zilina.
