The Ekurhuleni metropolitan council has confirmed receiving a petition from the community of Katlehong on the possible closure of Botsotso Ground and promised to respond on time.

This after the local community and football people objected to a threat from the municipality to close down the popular Botsotso Ground at Mopeli Section for a business complex.

Consequently, they signed a petition expressing their displeasure against the move. The petition was submitted to the office of the Ekurhuleni executive mayor Ntombi Mekgwe last Wednesday, giving the council seven days to respond.

Prince Hamca, spokesman and adviser to the office of the executive mayor said yesterday: "We have received the petition. we are hoping once we conclude the discussion we will be able to engage with members of the community who submitted the petition."
