Moroka Swallows' players believe playing against Bidvest Wits in a friendly recently has given them a clear indication of what to expect against The Clever Boys in the Telkom Knockout this weekend.

The Birds lost that friendly 1-3 but the players said they have noticed some cracks in their opponents' ensemble and are highly motivated going into Sunday's last-16 match of the tournament at Olympia Park Stadium in Rustenburg. Kickoff is at 3pm.

The last time the Birds lifted a trophy was in 2004 when they won the now defunct Absa Cup, and since then they have not come near to annexing one.

But the players are upbeat and ready to take the Students by the scruff of their necks in this lucrative competition.

Young Phumelele "Ace" Bhengu who was impressive in their last encounter against Kaizer Chiefs said he was delighted to be given an opportunity to play in the first team this season.

His recent combination with David Radebe was excellent and the two are likely to see Wits out of the competition.

"Radebe is experienced and he normally advises me what to do and where to position myself. He's such a great motivation for me."

Fabian McCarthy who has been training with the team said: "I'm still waiting for my chance. The team is doing well and it will be unwise to change a winning side. I have no pressure, but I believe that my chance will come."

Brazilian defender Vinicius da Silva said: "They [Wits] have good players. this game is very important for us, we need to win it."
