Luminaries line for awards

Jazz artists Sibongile Khumalo, rugby star, Bryan Habana, cricketer Makhaya Ntini, famous literary critic Lewis Nkosi and thespian Zakes Zulu Mokae are among South Africans nominated for presidential awards.

The Council of National Orders have nominated luminaries in various categories for the awards that will be bestowed by President Kgalema Motlanthe on October 28.

The National Orders are the highest awards that the president of South Africa bestows on citizens and eminent foreign nationals in recognition of their contribution to nation building.

People will be awarded for bravery in the category Order of Mendi.

Bryan Gary Habana has been nominated in the category of Order of Ikhamanga for his excellent performance and contribution to the improvement of the game of rugby in South Africa.

Keorapetse William Kgositsile has been nominated for his achievements in the field of literature and for using his talents to expose the evils of the system of apartheid.
