They might be struggling in the league this season but Bloemfontein Celtic have the potential to upset the applecart by overcoming Santos in the Telkom Knockout on Sunday.

They host the People's Team in the first round of this envied tournament at Seisa Ramabodu Stadium and kickoff is at 3pm.

Celtic are buoyed by their success in the yearly Macufe Cup, which they won at Free State Stadium last Sunday.

They beat home boys Free State Stars 1-0 in the final.

Celtic are also motivated by the fact that they will be playing at their happy hunting ground for the first time this season.

They were forced to host their matches at the Free State Stadium because the pitch at Seisa Ramabodu Stadium was unplayable.

They will also be spurred on by their intimidating supporters - and their song and dance.

But Phunya SeleSele are well aware that Santos will be no pushovers on Sunday and their coach Mich "Don't Talk To Me" D'Avray will need to come up with a calculated game plane to beat the Cape Town visitors.

The hosts will be minus influential defender Timothy Batabaire who got a red card in their 0-2 defeat by Ajax Cape Town in a league match at Athlone Stadium on October 1.

But D'Avray has enough options to close the void left by the Ugandan central defender as he has the likes of Willington Sambu, Thabo Nthete and Johannes Motlhaping who could be equal to the task.

Patrick Malokase, who scored the clincher against Ea Lla Koto last Sunday, could hurt Santos.

But the Capetonians, who have a clean bill of health, have talented defenders who can deal with whatever their opponents throw at them.

Their rearguard will be led by Musa Otieno, whose experience has worked wonders for Santos in this department. Erwin Isaacs and Eleazar Rodgers could also prove a handful for the Absa Premiership basement club.
