Mosiuoa Lekota's meeting in Polokwane yesterday did not take place as the former defence minister failed to show up.
Lekota was to be accompanied by former Cosatu boss Willie Madisha. But both men failed to show up. They were said to be attending to other national commitments pertaining to the formation of a new party.
Journalists came in large numbers from all over the province to listen to a presentation, only to be told later that Lekota and Madisha would not be part of the briefing.
Solly Mkhatshwa, spokesman for the Greater Tzaneen municipality, who tried unsuccessfully to challenge Joe Maswanganyi in the contest for secretary of the ANC during the party's provincial conference in July, saved the day.
Mkhatshwa told the journalists that they had already established provincial and regional coordinating committees to mobilise support for the new party ahead of the national convention.
He said they were waiting for Lekota to inform them of the date for the convention. - Frank Maponya
