Pre-school children in Orlando East, Soweto, were treated to a fun day when celebrities Hlubi Mboya and Jack Devnarain of Isidingo visited the creche yesterday.

Mboya and Devnarain are brand ambassadors of the United Nations World Food Programme's (WFP) hunger relief week.

They gave the children toys and food sponsored by a fast food outlet and the WFP, who had teamed up for their second hunger relief campaign. The campaign raised R2,9 million.

Richard Lee, WFP regional officer, said: "The money we raised last year helped 12000 people. We hope to expand that."

Lee said they wanted to expand the project to Swaziland.

"Feeding people is now no longer a matter of expressing love, it's a matter of survival," Devnarain said.

The day ended with the handing out of food parcels to the elderly. "I think that giving makes life more valuable," Mboya said.
