Police in KwaDabeka near Durban have warned women in the area to be on the lookout and to always walk in groups.
This comes after a 21-year-old woman suffered an excruciating five hours of pain at the hands of her kidnapper, who molested her and inserted an iron rod into her private parts.
Police spokesman Captain Bongani Khomo said the victim was held hostage for five hours last Tuesday.
"She was alone when she was kidnapped by this man, who took her to his house and molested her. He started by putting his fingers inside the victim's private parts.
"He then burnt an iron rod and when it was red hot, he inserted it in the woman's private parts," said Khomo.
He said she was able to free herself by insisting that she had to go to the toilet.
"The suspect allowed her to go to the toilet and she was able to escape," he said.
"Nine images of the naked victim and two of her private parts were found on his cell phone," said Khomo.
Khomo said police were worried that the suspect may be a serial killer.
"Serial killers behave like him. They enjoy hurting their victims," he said.
The suspect was expected to appear in the Pinetown magis- trate's court late yesterday.
