Members of the executive committee (MECs) in Limpopo have been gripped by uncertainty following the ANC's contentious move in deploying provincial chairman Cassel Mathale to the cabinet.
According to policy only 10 people may form the cabinet. This means one MEC must resign or be dismissed to enable Mathale to rise to the position.
The ANC has instructed Premier Sello Moloto to dismiss an MEC.
The names of roads and transport MEC Justice Pitso, sports, art and culture MEC Joyce Masham-ba, public works MEC Machueni Semenya, safety and security MEC Samson Ritshivhanda Ndou and health and social development MEC Seaparo Sekoati were allegedly suggested.
Pitso is accused of taking "irregular" trips outside the province to allegedly meet with others to form a new party.
The move to axe Pitso was seen as a ploy aimed at kicking supporters of former president Thabo Mbeki out of provincial structures before they finish their term of office.
This has happened in Eastern and Western Cape, where premiers Nosimo Balindlela and Ebrahim Rasool, both Mbeki supporters, were shown the door before their term expired.
Moloto last week confirmed the PEC's request to deploy Mathale to the cabinet but said the process had not been finalised.
